Join India’s Food Rescue Movement
Did you know that millions of kilos of perfectly edible food go to waste every day in India, while millions of people go to bed hungry?
Across the country, surplus food from farms, mandis, food processing units, restaurants, and grocery stores is often discarded. Meanwhile, over 190 million Indians still face food insecurity. But there’s a solution — Food Rescue.
What is Food Rescue?
Food Rescue is the process of identifying surplus, safe-to-eat food and redirecting it to people who need it. Instead of being wasted, this food becomes a source of nourishment for families, school children, elderly citizens, and daily wage earners.
The Food Rescue Challenge: India Edition
Inspired by global efforts like Feeding America, the Indian food rescue movement is growing. Our goal? To rescue an additional 4.5 lakh tonnes (1 billion pounds) of food every year and deliver it to communities facing hunger across the country.
Why Food Rescue Matters in India
40% of food produced in India is wasted, even as millions suffer from hunger and malnutrition.
Much of this surplus food — fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein — is safe and nutritious.
Rescuing this food reduces waste, cuts carbon emissions, and feeds families.
From Surplus to Service
We work with a wide network of NGOs, food banks, community kitchens, volunteers, and food donors — including grocery stores, farms, restaurants, and food manufacturers — to ensure rescued food reaches the right people.
Whether it’s fresh tomatoes from a mandi, leftover cooked meals from a wedding, or extra dairy from a local supplier — every kilo of food rescued helps someone thrive.
